The Exorcist: Believer review

Posted : 5 months, 3 weeks ago on 27 October 2023 11:41 (A review of The Exorcist: Believer)

To be completely honest, I don’t see why people hate this movie. It’s true that it’s a lot weaker than the OG Exorcist but that’s the only major problem I think this movie has. If this wasn’t a movie in the Exorcist franchise, it could have worked but unfortunately it has to compete with a film that is not only considered one of the scariest and greatest horror films of all time, but a film that’s considered one of the best films of all time and it fails to capture what made the original scary. But either than that, I actually enjoyed this film. It literally had me on the edge of my seat and every time a jump scare or something else bad was about to happen, I was literally shaking in fear (and coldness because the theatre was deathly cold for some odd reason). I know that I just self contradicted myself but the movie has a couple genuine good scares that ALMOST recapture the original but not by too much.

Smile review

Posted : 1 year, 6 months ago on 3 October 2022 10:25 (A review of Smile)

Smile is an interesting case of already cliched tropes mixed in with a original story which would seem to be a standard case of stealing from other movies right? Films like The Ring and It Follows have already had stuff like this happen. However, while Smile does take a lot of ideas and concepts from other horror films, it doesn’t seem to steal it for bad reasons. If anything, it takes those already used ideas and seems to use it for an advantage. Even though the film is generic as fuck, it’s still effectively creepy and done well to the point you will forget that these ideas were already used. Smile is a forgivable case because it’s a terrifying movie. Despite the already used ideas from other films, Smile takes those ideas to the max with creepiness and somewhat originality with the scares and the idea of a simple smile (note: the film Truth or Dare failed at this idea miserably) being a curse passed down from person to person by something inhuman and paranormal. I’d say besides the stolen ideas from other films, Smile (alongside X, The Black Phone, Nope, The Menu and Barbarian) is the best horror film of 2022. The acting, pacing, scares, effects and symbolism is what makes this movie a entertaining experience.

Varan the Unbelievable review

Posted : 1 year, 6 months ago on 1 October 2022 12:37 (A review of Varan the Unbelievable)

Not much monster screen time but it’s a fair film. The acting is good and the monster design is pretty good for a old b-monster flick

Leprechaun review

Posted : 1 year, 6 months ago on 1 October 2022 12:36 (A review of Leprechaun)

Except maybe a likeable performance from Warwick Davis, this film has nothing new to offer except maybe a dumb fear of either dwarves, Irish people or St. Patty’s day

Bride of the Monster (1955) review

Posted : 1 year, 6 months ago on 1 October 2022 12:35 (A review of Bride of the Monster (1955))

Despite Bela Lugosi’s fantastic performance and an unforgettable character from Tor Johnson, the film is played like a soap opera trying to be a monster movie and not in a good way.

The Monster Project (2017) review

Posted : 1 year, 6 months ago on 1 October 2022 12:31 (A review of The Monster Project (2017))

I. Love. This. Film! It knows it’s suspense, scares, effects, acting, all of it. It maybe a bit slow at first, but once the monsters appear, you’ll want to grab a beer or whatever your favorite drink is, with them

Jigsaw review

Posted : 1 year, 6 months ago on 1 October 2022 12:30 (A review of Jigsaw)

Compared to the 3d crapfest from the last one, this has actual potential, actual good acting and an actual plot twist that will be unforgettable

Up from the Depths (1979) review

Posted : 3 years ago on 3 April 2021 01:43 (A review of Up from the Depths (1979))

What happens if the shark from jaws was in reality a ACTUAL monster. You get a shitty ripoff with some of the worst acting that makes Tommy Wiseau look like Orson Welles

Saw: The Final Chapter review

Posted : 3 years ago on 3 April 2021 01:42 (A review of Saw: The Final Chapter)

I usually love the Saw films. This was a big let down considering i got bored watching it despite it trying to be entertaining. But like always, Tobin Bell is still good playing his most iconic role.

Troll 2 review

Posted : 3 years ago on 3 April 2021 01:42 (A review of Troll 2)

There’s a reason it’s called the best worst horror film ever made. Everyone even the goblins are fucking stupid. The only decent character that i thought was actually trying was the goblin preacher because he was actually trying to be scary and evil. Either than that, it is a crap film
